Great living starts with a picture
I am currently studying Psycho-Cybernetics, a book by Maxwell Maltz. The sub-title is “A New Technique for Using Your Subconscious Power.”
The chapter I am working on now is called “Imagination — The First Key.”
In this chapter a practice exercise is given.
In the introduction to the practice exercise Dr. Maltz quotes another doctor who says,
Great living starts with a picture, held in your imagination,
of what you would like to do or be.
That is fascinating!
This exercise goes into creating such a picture.
Set aside 30 minutes each day when you can be alone and undisturbed. It is very important.
To start this 30 minute time period you want to let yourself relax and be as comfortable as possible.
Close your eyes and open up your imagination.
With your imagination you see pictures.

It does not matter whether it is a still picture like a photograph or whether it is a motion picture like a movie or video.
All that matters is that you let a picture develop.
As the picture develops, make the image as vivid and as detailed as possible.
These will be details that are important to you. This is your personalized picture or video.
Pay attention to small details such as the sights, the sounds, the smells, the texture of the objects, anything and everything that is in your imagined environment.
You want your mental image to approximate actual experience as much as possible.
If the imagined experience is vivid enough and detailed enough your imagined practice experience will be equal to an actual live experience!
This is what we want!
Doing this will prepare us for the next part of the exercise.
Till then you can share as best you can, in the comments below,
What your picture looks like!
I wish you all the best,
Derrall
I love this idea and I have been working on it myself. My picture looks like this: Me standing at my bedroom window looking out over the majestic mountains that cascade down to a beautiful lake. I see myself hiking on the mountain trails and I smell the scene of the trees and dirt. Next it’s night time and I’m sitting in front of my stone fireplace, I have a cup of coffee in my hands and blanket over my cold legs. Etc. Etc. One day my dreams will come true. I live in New Orleans now and no, no mountains here to speak of. I do love my city, but I don’t want to live here forever.
Fabulous!
This is a beautiful picture!
May I suggest that you see it in your imagination as present NOW!
all the best,
My picture places me on the beautiful island of Bonaire. I sit in a comfortable chair reading a book. The sun is shining of course and I look over a blue sea. I am surrounded by people I love such as my husband,my children, grandchildren,my mother and some friends. There ore no obligations and no worries on my mind. I am peaceful and relaxed.
Monica, thank you for sharing your picture
it is lovely picture
cherish it and live into it!
all the best,
